Lumir Eugene Novak Jr., 67, of Pleasant Dale, passed away June 22, 2024, in Lincoln.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Lumir, “Lum,” son of Lumir and Ann (Havlat) Novak, was born May 20, 1957, in Crete. Lumir graduated from Crete High School in 1975. After high school, Lumir went to work for Seward County Roads Department and eventually went to work for Shaw Construction. Years later, Lumir and Darlene purchased the business, and Novak Construction was established. He was owner/operator at the time of his passing. He enjoyed his time in his dozer helping friends and customers.

In 1979, he was united in marriage to his best friend and love of his life, Darlene. Lumir and Darlene settled near Pleasant Dale and raised their three children, Spencer, Lindsey and Kellen. Throughout his years, he enjoyed farming and raising cattle, working alongside his father for many of those years. Lumir was known as an avid joke teller, lighting up the room with his laugh, many times before the joke was over. Lum enjoyed socializing with his friends, taking a drive with Darlene, and listening to music. He loved watching sports, especially the Indianapolis Colts, along with many westerns.

He is survived by wife, Darlene, of 44 years; children, Spencer Schnell of Pleasant Dale, Lindsey (Joel) Weber of Dorchester, and Kellen Novak and friend Cortney Kenney of Pleasant Dale; grandchildren, Connor, Keenan, and Kyla Troyer, Hayes, Hesston, and Henley Novak; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Dean Mach, Marilyn and Darrell Williams; sister, Connie Kalkwarf; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lumir is preceded in death by his parents, Lumir and Ann Novak; and infant brother, Larry; mother-in-law and father-in-law Mildred and James Burianek; brothers-in-law, Tom Kalkwarf, Don Burianek, and Dennis Burianek; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hagemeier, Diane Rosenau and Donna Hillgren.
