Norma Brozovsky, age 81, passed away to join the love of her life, Wayne, on July 31, 2024, at Old Cheney Rehab in Lincoln.

She was born in Friend on Aug. 20, 1942, to Bernard and Rose (Laun) Zajic, the youngest of three children. She attended Country School #52, high school in Friend and graduated in 1961. Norma’s parents moved to Crete that year and she used to say she “tagged along.”

Norma worked at a local café for a short time before starting at Formfit, where she worked for 10 years. She worked at a local bar, Pap’s, part-time and this is where she met Wayne. They dated a short time and were married Sept. 11, 1971. They honeymooned in Texas and loved traveling, visiting national parks, zoos and fishing. They vacationed in 26 states, Colorado being their favorite.  They always said their marriage was “special.” Norma told people that it was Wayne that taught her to dance the waltz, and through the years, they danced at many festive occasions.

Norma worked at Peterson’s Manufacturing for two years. She was the third woman to be hired by them. After that, she did in-home day care for nearly 13 years and at the same time, she and Wayne ran a bait shop. She loved meeting other people that loved fishing as much as they did and enjoyed sharing fishing stories with them. She worked for the Census Bureau in 1979 and 1980. She then worked at Crete schools, being a substitute where needed at first and then started in the food service area and stayed there until retirement. She made many lasting friends while working at the school.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; parents, Bernard and Rose (Laun) Zajic; sister, Rose (Zajic) Hagemeier; brother-in-law, Glen Hagemeier; brother, Melvin Zajic; sister-in-law, Arlene Kasparek; nephew, Dennis Hagemeier; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Olga Brozovsky, Ervin and Adeline Brozovsky and Lester Brozovsky.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Carol Brozovsky, many beloved nieces and nephews and special friend, Sara Cawley.

A graveside service was Aug. 6 at Riverside Cemetery in Crete. Arrangements by Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete.
