Gene R. Niebuhr, age 87, formerly of Crete, passed away April 30, 2024, in Lincoln.
Gene was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Hallam, to Dick and Rose (Kuna) Niebuhr, and grew up on a family farm near Crete. He was a 1955 graduate of Crete High School. On Oct. 17, 1959, he married Sherill Burgess of Dorchester, and the couple made their home in Lincoln, where they raised their daughter, Jody. Gene had a lifelong career at Gooch Mills, where he was employed for 40 years until his retirement.
Those left to celebrate his life include his daughter, Jody (Craig) Cameron of Lincoln; grandson, Lance Cameron of Boulder, Colorado; brother, Larry (Phyllis) Niebuhr of Crete; sisters-in-law, Rosalee (Chuck) Henning of Crete and Barb (Mike) Brunkow of Lincoln; special friend, Betty Kliment of Seward; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of extended family members and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sherill (Burgess) Niebuhr.
A Celebration of Life was May 3 at Roper and Sons South Chapel in Lincoln.
