BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING MONDAY, MAY 13, 2024 8:00 PM PUBLIC SCHOOL LIBRARY 506 W. 9TH STREET DORCHESTER, NE 68343-0007 Notice of the time and place of the Dorchester Board of Education meeting was published in a newspaper of general circulation within the district. Newspapers of general circulation in the district include, but are not necessarily limited to, the Crete News, the Lincoln Journal Star, or the Omaha World-Herald. Notice is also posted in at least three prominent places within the school district which may include the following: Dorchester Public Schools, Farmers Coop, First State Bank, and the Village Office. Individual board members received in advance the meeting agenda and meeting materials. Pursuant to Section 84-1412 of the Nebraska Statutes, the public is hereby informed that a current copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act is posted in the Board meeting boardroom. Call to Order and Announce Open Meetings Act Verification The regular board meeting was called to order by President Steve Vyhnalek at 8:00 pm with all board members present. He confirmed the advanced notice of the meeting date and agenda. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all. 2. Roll Call School personnel present are Superintendent Curt Cogswell, Principal Jake Wiese, and Jen Feeken. 3. Receive Visitors and Announce Open Forum for Public Comment Karma Ridpath was present. 3.1. Presentation by Mrs. Ridpath Mrs. Ridpath presented the Title I End of Year Board Report as required by Title I policy. Mrs. Ridpath gave the board a summary of Title I policies and procedures, the number of participants last school year as compared to this year, as well as what's ahead for the program. 4. Request for Change of Agenda No request for a change of agenda. 5. Approval of the Minutes of the Last Meeting(s) Motion to approve the reading of the last meeting minutes passed with a motion by Carol Schnell and a second by Kelli Schweitzer. Financial Report Motion to approve the financial report passed with a motion by Shelly Lehr and a second by Mike Hatfield. Principal's Report Mr. Wiese reported that staff professional development has consisted of Hope Science training, discussing reading curriculum, and elementary MTSS. He said that the juniors' ACT scores look good and NSCAS testing has been completed. 7.2. Superintendent's Report Mr. Cogswell told the board we have the last day of preschool on May 16th and the last day of school for K-11 on May 17th. There will be a continuous improvement meeting at ESU 6 on May 20th and an Elementary Data Retreat on May 21st. Summer School will be June 17-21 and July 22-26. 8. Discussion Items 8.1. 2024 Legislative Summary Mr. Cogswell discussed a summary from Perry Law Firm about required policy updates. 8.2. Summer Projects Mr. Cogswell told board members about projects that need to be completed over the summer. 8.3. Dual Credit Payment Mr. Cogswell discussed with board members about considering whether the school should pay for a college math class through Doane. 8.4. Student Attendance Mr. Cogswell and Mr. Wiese shared with the board some of their thoughts about student attendance procedures for the 2024-2025 school year. 8.5. Superintendent Evaluation Mr. Cogswell reminded the board that he is required to have two evaluations since this is his first year. 9. Action Items There were no action items. 10.
